What appears indirectly may still carry information.
THE SHADOW
A shadow is not nothing.
It arises through relation.
LIGHT → OBJECT → INTERRUPTION → SHADOW
The shadow may disclose contour, position, movement, direction, distance, or change.
But the shadow is not the object that produced it.
SHADOW ≠ OBJECT
A changing shadow does not necessarily establish a changing object.
The light may have moved.
The object may have moved.
The observer may have moved.
The geometry among them may have changed.

THE MOON
Usually the moon is a guide in the Encoded Materials universe.
Its illumination changes with relation.
So do the shadows it permits us to see.
A shadow cannot always be pinned to a particular direction, color, shade, or tone without recovering the field in which it appeared.
APPEARANCE → RELATION → EVIDENCE
A SHADOW MAY BE EVIDENCE WITHOUT BEING THE THING EVIDENCED.
EVIDENCE ≠ OBJECT
SOMBRA does not discard the shadow because it is incomplete.
Nor does it complete the object from the shadow alone.
A changing shadow does not necessarily establish a changing object.
The light may have moved.
The object may have moved.
The receiving field may have changed.
The observer may have moved.
EVERY SHADOW MUST BE EVALUATED WITHIN THE FIELD THAT PRODUCED IT.
