FALL
Position changes. Visibility may change with it.
A thing may leave the present field of view without leaving the constituted field.
It may descend below a horizon, pass behind another surface, enter shadow, move beyond an aperture, or simply cease to be locally observable.
What has changed first is position.
POSITION → VISIBILITY
Loss of visibility does not, by itself, establish what happened beyond the limit of observation.
BELOW THE HORIZON ≠ OUTSIDE THE WORLD
THE FALL
To fall is to change position under relation to a field.
The movement may be observable.
Its continuation may not be.
At the point where observation ends, the record has reached a boundary.
OBSERVED → PARTIALLY OBSERVED → UNSEEN
The unseen portion does not thereby become available for completion by inference.
UNSEEN ≠ NONEXISTENT
UNRESOLVED ≠ ABSENT
SOMBRA preserves the distinction.
HORIZON
A horizon is a limit of present visibility.
It is not necessarily a limit of the thing observed.
What passes beyond it may continue, stop, transform, return, or encounter conditions unavailable from the observer's position.
Those possibilities do not become facts merely because they are possible.
LIMIT OF OBSERVATION ≠ LIMIT OF REALITY
The proper constitutional state beyond the horizon may simply be:
UNRESOLVED
FIVE CUTS
ENGLISH — fall
To descend, drop, or leave a prior position. English readily turns fall into fallen, allowing observed movement to become attributed condition.
The movement itself does not establish everything the resulting description may imply.
ESPAÑOL — caer
To fall. Caer preserves movement into another position or condition while leaving the resulting state as a separate question.
FRANÇAIS — tomber
To fall, drop, or come upon. Tomber makes arrival especially visible: the fall may change where something can be encountered without establishing what the thing has become.
ITALIANO — cadere
To fall, descend, or pass into another condition. Cadere preserves the distinction between movement and whatever judgment may later attach to the resulting state.
DEUTSCH — fallen
To fall. The close English-German relation keeps the physical primitive unusually visible: a change of position does not itself explain its cause, consequence, or meaning.
WHAT SURVIVES
Across the cuts:
POSITION → DISPLACEMENT → CHANGED VISIBILITY
Everything beyond that requires additional evidence.
The fall may be known.
The landing may not be.
The cause may not be.
The consequence may not be.
OBSERVATION EARNS DESCRIPTION BEFORE ATTRIBUTION.
SOMBRA does not restore what has disappeared from view.
It prevents the boundary of sight from becoming an invented boundary of reality.
What falls beyond the horizon has left the view.
It has not, for that reason alone, left the field.
THE PRESENT VIEW IS NOT THE WHOLE FIELD.
